Each lesson is presented in a four-page format. Muscle development pages are unnumbered. The next 3-page format of each lesson is labeled A-B-C. Notice that the unnumbered, warm-up page is always located on the left-hand side of the book. The actual lesson always begins on Page A, on the book's right-hand side, and ends on Page C that is also on the right-hand side of the book. This assures that students are asked to turn the page only one time in a lesson, reducing student anxiety to more work.

BACK AND FORTH - ROUND AND ROUND

Most likely the student experiencing developmental delays does not know how to isolate and control the small groups in the hand, wrist and fingers. Handwriting improves as the student gains control of the small muscles in the hand.

Remember: Everything you want to be learned, must be taught.

PAGE A and PAGE B

Student work for the new lesson begins on Page A. The upper portion of both Page A and Page B has been designed to introduce the main component lines required for capital letter formation. These are just lines and should not be given a letter name. There is no wrong way. Any work produced is good.

PAGE C

The last page of the lesson is Page C. Page C builds the capital letter from previously practiced lines, and it is now time to give these lines a letter name. The student should be asked to state the letter name before each practice.

Remember: Teach everything every way it can be taught. Use all five senses.

The lower portion of Pages A, B and C says, "Draw." This section should be offered as an option, not a requirement, to the student. Student confidence will increase as lessons are completed.
