Special Offspring Handwriting Program
To assure student success in all academic areas, Special Offspring offers the Stars of Success Developmental Handwriting Program. Young children, as well as, children with Down syndrome and other developmental delays often demonstrate limited writing progress utilizing traditional programs due to the complication of low muscle tone (hypotonia). Each level of the Stars of Success Handwriting Program provides consistent exercises targeting low muscle tone in the hand, wrist, and fingers. The Stars of Success Handwriting Program bridges the gap between the physical needs of the student and other handwriting programs. At each level, the Stars of Success Handwriting Program has been uniquely and carefully formatted. It is imperative that developmentally delayed students learn how to isolate and control small muscle groups prior to any attempts at letter creation. At each level, the Star of Success handwriting lessons provide targeted practice and exercise for small muscle groups in the hand, wrist and fingers. Each Star of Success lesson's muscle development pages are similar to physical/occupation therapy sessions intended to strengthen these weakened muscles. By specifically addressing the prereqisite muscle tone needs, the Stars of Success handwriting practice pages support all other handwriting programs. Skill progression will be visible from the commencement pages to the culminating pages. Click here to learn more about the Special Offspring Handwriting Program.
Special Offspring Spelling Program
Special Offspring offers the Stars of Success Spelling Program, a one-of-a-kind program that guarantees the student's ability to read every word prior to spelling demands. Each Stars of Success spelling list directly follows the sequence of the sight words in the corresponding Special Offspring Sight Word Reader level. Student success depends on the mastery of the prerequisite Special Offspring Reading Series. Skill integration in both the Special Offspring Reading and Spelling programs allow students to experience reading and spelling successes much sooner than those provided by traditional materials and methods.
The Stars of Success Spelling Program is designed to target known learning needs of children with Down syndrome and other developmental delays. The number of new spelling words introduced per lesson is based on the average number of visual and auditory memory channels of the developmentally delayed learner, assuring that mastery expectations match the student's actual memory ability. Exercises are distraction-free, increasing student attention. Students are not only able to read each spelling word, but are able to read all words in a Stars of Success spelling lesson. Most importantly the format used in the Stars of Success Spelling Program is designed to incorporate distributed practice throughout each Stars of Success Spelling Book.
